A concentrated dose of your own platelets, delivered right where you need it

What Is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy?

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a regenerative injection therapy that uses a concentrated sample of your own blood to help your body heal itself. We draw a small blood sample, spin it in a centrifuge to separate out the platelet-rich layer, and inject that concentrate directly into the injured or painful area. Platelets carry growth factors your body already uses to repair tissue, so PRP simply gives that natural process a head start where it's needed most. At Premium Sports & Orthopedic Center, Dr. Erick Green uses PRP to treat tendon, ligament, muscle, and joint injuries without surgery. Book a consultation to find out if PRP is right for you.

FAQs

Learn More About PRP Therapy

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy?

PRP therapy uses a concentrated sample of your own blood platelets, injected directly into an injured or painful area, to help accelerate your body's natural healing process.

How is PRP different from a cortisone shot?

Cortisone reduces inflammation temporarily but doesn't repair tissue and can weaken it with repeated use. PRP uses your own platelets to actively support tissue repair, and carries none of the risks associated with repeated steroid injections.

What conditions does PRP treat?

PRP is commonly used for osteoarthritis, tendinitis, ligament sprains, rotator cuff injuries, tennis and golfer's elbow, plantar fasciitis, and many sports-related muscle and joint injuries.

Is PRP safe?

Because PRP is made from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction or infection is very low. As with any injection, there is a small risk of minor discomfort, swelling, or bruising at the injection site.

Does PRP hurt?

Most patients feel only mild discomfort, similar to a standard injection. Dr. Green uses ultrasound guidance to place the injection precisely, which helps keep the procedure quick and as comfortable as possible.

How long does a PRP appointment take?

A typical PRP visit, including the blood draw, preparation, and injection, takes about 45 to 60 minutes. There's no hospital stay and you can drive yourself home afterward.

How many PRP treatments will I need?

Many patients notice improvement after a single injection. Depending on the injury, Dr. Green may recommend a short series of 2-3 injections spaced a few weeks apart for the best result.

How long does it take for PRP to work?

Most patients begin noticing improvement within 4 to 6 weeks, with continued healing over the following months as the treated tissue regenerates.

Is PRP covered by insurance?

PRP is often considered an elective regenerative treatment and may not be covered by insurance. Our team can go over pricing and payment options during your consultation.

Who is a good candidate for PRP?

PRP is a good option for people with chronic tendon, ligament, muscle, or joint pain who want to avoid surgery or reduce reliance on steroid injections. Dr. Green will evaluate your injury and health history to confirm whether PRP is right for you.
