Between 2010 and 2016, the CDC analyzed ER visits from patients between 15 and 24. Of those visits, 2.7 million were for sports-related injuries. Football, basketball, biking, soccer, and ice or roller skating accounted for the majority of the injuries. Females were also likely to have injuries from gymnastics and cheerleading, while football and basketball were the top activities leading to injuries in males.
Age also factors into the CDC’s report. Young adults between the ages of 20 and 24 were more likely to have injuries to the upper extremities like the arms and upper back. Injuries to legs, ankles, and knees accounted for 41% of young adults. Concussions and traumatic brain injuries were prevalent in all age groups.
You can’t prevent every sports-related injury, but you can make a body stronger and more resilient to some of the issues that occur. With sports health care services, a young adult can learn ways to keep the body in optimal shape to play favorite sports and avoid debilitating injuries.
What Sports Medicine Services Are Available to Young Adults?
If you play sports or enjoy outdoor and indoor activities that require physical activity, it’s important to stay in the best possible shape, physically and mentally. Sports medicine helps with that. Explore some of the services available to young adults.
Back Pain Treatment:
One sudden twist can strain your back muscles and lead to pain that makes it hard to move around, find a comfortable position for sitting or sleeping, and get in and out of a car. Back pain affects eight out of ten adults at least once in their lifetime.
Talk to a doctor about back pain treatments for conditions like spinal cord injuries, herniated discs, spine trauma, scoliosis, and more. Using therapies like massage, physical therapy, and PRP and stem cell treatments, the pain in your lower back goes away.
EMS Training:
EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation. It involves small electric impulses that are directed deep into the muscles to make the muscles contract. Those contractions stimulate muscle fibers to strengthen movements without the need for heavy weights. It can help with muscle toning, fat reduction, weight loss, and body shaping.
IV Drip Therapy:
Did you know that sometimes, muscle and joint pain can be linked to simple deficiencies of certain nutrients? If you don’t have enough potassium, muscle cramps in the legs may occur. IV drip therapy provides your body with a mixture of amino acids, essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that your body needs to be in prime condition. B12 boosts energy production and magnesium helps with muscle health.
These IV drip fluids help with more than muscle and joint wellness. They can also kickstart your immune system to help fight off cold and flu viruses in peak cold and flu season, or they help you recover from a severe cold, COVID-19, or flu by detoxification. They improve the health and look of your hair, nails, and skin. They also help your cell and tissue health.
Orthopedic & Sports Injury Treatment:
Sprains of the ankle, foot, wrist, etc. are one thing that this treatment helps with. Stress and compression fractures, dislocations, tennis elbow, hernias, ACL and rotator cuff tears, and muscle and joint injuries also benefit from orthopedic and sports injury treatment plans. The injury is properly diagnosed and a holistic treatment plan is created for you.
PRP Injections:
Joint pain can become disabling, and it’s a leading reason why some people turn to steroids and can’t stop the cycle. PRP joint injections use platelets from your blood to help speed the healing process in your body’s joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. PRP injections are more effective than steroids and eliminate the side effects that come with regular steroid use.
PRP injections help with arthritis, joint disease, sports injuries, rotator cuff tears, torn ligaments, and elbow issues. It can also help ease ligament sprains and hand injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome and skier’s thumb.
Shoulder, Knee, and Ankle Pain Treatment:
An ankle, knee, or shoulder strain can make you want to quit. Sure, that will stop the pain for now, but it’s not addressing the cause of the pain or how to prevent it from coming back time and time again. If that pain makes it hard to sleep or work, it’s going to impact your life in more ways than you could imagine.
Surgery doesn’t have to be the only solution to inflammation and pain affecting your mobility. Physical therapy, massage, PRP, anti-inflammatory medications, and stem cell injections are all options. You can have help with strained ligaments, tendonitis, sciatica, rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, and arthritis pain.
Stem Cell Therapy:
If chronic pain is occurring from joint injuries and other problems sports cause, stem cell therapy is a good option. Stem cell therapy is a minimally invasive treatment that can help heal joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons and those beneficial results don’t help for a few months and disappear, they can last a long time. It works by regenerating damaged tissue to boost healing.
Weight Loss & Fitness Programs:
